Calcium is needed for strong bones. If a person has too little calcium in his body, his bones will be weak and he may develop bone cancer.

A complete blood count can tell if a person has too much protein in his blood. The test will measure the platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells. When there is a deficiency of protein, the white blood cells will fall to the lowest count in the body and the platelets will increase to an unhealthy level. When this happens, it will take more than normal proteins to make up for the loss. Protein S deficiency testing will then be necessary to determine how much protein the body needs. This test is usually done for those between the ages of one and seventy.

Methods To Determine Protein Deficiencies

There are two main methods used to determine protein deficiencies. One is using animal biopsies and the other is through protein deficiency testing kits. In the case of animal biopsies, cells from the tissues of the animals are harvested and tested for protein content. You may have to wait for several weeks before you get results. In the case of protein deficiency testing kits, a small amount of the desired protein concentrate is mixed with a small amount of water and then the test is run.

Normal Intake

It is important to keep your protein intake in your daily diet as normal. As you age, the body produces less protein. You can prevent this from happening by eating plenty of protein rich foods such as meat, eggs, fish, nuts, soy and beans. If you are having difficulty getting enough protein, consider a protein supplement.
